Report of Classis West held in Doon, Iowa, Sept. 20, 1961:
Rev. B. Woudenberg presided at this meeting which was adjourned at 8:45 P.M. This meeting was again one in which harmony and unity prevailed. Various matters were discussed and decided in executive meeting, including protests and matters of discipline, and the decisions were unanimous in all instances. Our Missionary, Rev. G. Lubbers, was present and was given advisory vote. The brother spoke a few appropriate words to the Classis and the president of Classis responded very fittingly. Let us remember our brother in our prayers in his difficult labors. Classical appointments were given to the congregations of Pella, Isabel-Forbes, and Randolph. In the case of Randolph the classis decided, once more, to ask Classis East to provide for Randolph’s pulpit supply. The following appointments were made: Isabel-Forbes—Oct. 15, 22, 29, G. VanBaren; Nov. 5, 12, 19, H.H. Kuiper; Dec. 3, 10, 17, B. Woudenberg; Jan. 7, 14, 21, J. Kortering; Feb. 4, 11, 18, J. Heys; Feb. 25,March 4, G. Vanden Berg; March 11, 18, R. Harbach; Mar. 25, April 1, H. Veldman. Pella—Oct., B. Woudenberg; Nov. J. Kortering; Dec., J. Heys; Jan., G. Vanden Berg; Feb., G. VanBaren; Mar., H.H. Kuiper. From Loveland the Classis entertained a request that the Classis conduct Church Visitation by the way of correspondence, by means of a questionnaire. Classis decided that this involved an article of the Church Order and that therefore it was a synodical matter. The matter was therefore referred back to the Loveland consistory. From our Edgerton Church a legal matter was received in connection with Edgerton’s effort to regain its church property. Classis answered a questionnaire which applied to the schismatic members of the consistory at the time of the split in 1953, and which also applied to the faithful members of the consistory at that time. Upon Randolph’s request Classis decided, the Lord willing, to hold its next meeting in Randolph the third Wednesday in March of 1962. Elder Regnerus closed the meeting with prayer.
