On April 11 the ministers of Classis East held the first meeting of their newly organized Ministers Conference. Taking a lesson from the past the organization has adopted a setup different: from the previous conferences which were organized only to pass out of existence after a few meetings. We may remember that the previous meetings were held after a day of busy classical activities, when some of the delegates were eager to spend a few quiet hours with relatives and friends, others had to hurry off to their trains. Last year’s Synod of the Protestant Reformed Churches instructed the Contact Committee to come to Synod 2016 with a detailed and grounded recommendation about revision of the Psalter. Synod did not express herself on whether the Psalter should be revised, but asked the Contact Committee to submit a proposal which could be considered at Synod 2016. The subject of Psalter revision arose about five years ago when the Free Reformed Churches (FRC) approached the PRC asking whether our churches would be interested in joining them, along with other denominations who use the Psalter, in updating the Psalter. The spring meeting of the Ladies’ League of the Prot. Ref. Churches was held on the afternoon of April 13. The meeting was opened by singing Psalter No. 298 and 356, after which our President, Mrs. H. Veldman, read I Peter 3 and led us in prayer. A word of welcome was extended to all the ladies gathered at our Doon church. The secretary then read the minutes and the treasures report was given. The president then introduced the speaker, Rev. Again we have had the God-given opportunity of gathering together as true Christian mothers and wives of the Prot. Ref. Churches of the Middle West. We met in the Doon Church auditorium, April 23, for an afternoon session. The meeting started by singing a few Psalter numbers. Our president, Mrs. H. Veldman, read Psalm 89, then opened with prayer, and also extended a word of welcome to a well-attended audience.
