Classis East met in regular session on Wednesday, May 14, 1986 at Holland. Each church was represented by two delegates. Rev. M. Joostens was the chair of this session. The main item of business at this meeting was the consideration of an appeal from a brother who had protested a consistory’s decision concerning the remarriage of a divorced person. The consistory’s position (summarized) was that since the person in question had been married to a divorced person, the marriage was no marriage at all but an adulterous relationship. The only legitimate marriage is the first marriage; any other “marriages,” even...

Southwest Protestant Reformed Church  Classis East met in regular session on May 9 and 10, 1984 at the Southwest Protestant Reformed Church. This was an unusual session for Classis East for, in recent years, the meetings have tended to be short. This session covered a day and a half. The meeting was chaired by Rev. Bruinsma, with help from Rev. DeVries when Rev. Bruinsma was called away to be with a parishioner in the hospital, and since Rev. Bruinsma was involved in one of the cases before Classis. Each church was represented by two delegates.

This meeting was held on January 21, 1954. The decision to hold such a meeting was reached, jointly, by the consistories of the Protestant Reformed Churches of Doon, Edgerton, Hull, and Redlands. They resolved to call a special classical session, at which the faithful remnants of Classis West would be represented. Although a public announcement of this proposed session of Classis West appeared in ourStandard Bearer, a special invitation was sent to these consistories concerning whom it was not known whether they had taken a definite stand.

Looking back upon this Classis meeting it may be said that it was a good day in which the work Classis had to perform was done with dispatch. Rev. G. VandenBerg was the chairman and Rev. M Schipper took minutes. All the churches in Classis East were represented by two delegates, so that Classis was constituted of 24 members. Classis adjourned Wednesday evening at 6:30 o’clock. There are a few matters taken care of by Classis which are worthy of a little more detailed report. We refer to the following matters:

Each congregation was represented by two delegates. Rev. Nathan Brummel was the chairman for this session. This was the first time that Trinity hosted the classis. And it was fitting, since this session of classis was also the occasion for the examination of their pastor-elect, Rodney Kleyn. Two pastors-elect were examined: Rodney Kleyn, who accepted the call to Trinity PRC, and David Overway, who accepted the call from Covenant PRC, Wyckoff, New Jersey. Both men preached...
