Classis East met in regular session on Wednesday, September 11, 1985 at the Hope Protestant Reformed Church, Grand Rapids. Devotions were conducted by Rev. B. Gritters, chairman of the May classis. Rev. C. Haak was the chairman of this session. Each church was represented by two delegates. Classis East met in regular session on Wednesday, January 14, 1987 at the First Protestant Reformed Church of Grand Rapids. All the churches were represented by two delegates. Rev. J. Kortering was the chair of this session. An overture to synod to amend its 1960 decision on the baptism of adopted children was forwarded with the disapproval of classis. Classis East met in regular session on Wednesday, January 8, at the Hudsonville Protestant Reformed Church. Each church was represented by two delegates. Rev. Haak opened the session with devotions; Rev. R. Hanko presided. The business of the classes was other than routine. There was first an overture regarding changes in translation of the Canons of Dordt. There were four specific changes proposed in the overture, all of which, if changed, would improve the meaning of the Canons. Classis decided to send the overture to synod with its approval. Classis West of the Protestant Reformed Churches met in Hull, Iowa on March 4, 1987. Meeting from 8:30 AM until after midnight, Classis finished its work in one, long day. Twelve ministers and twelve elders represented the churches of the West. Rev. T. Classis East met in regular session on January 11, 1984 at First Church, Grand Rapids. Each congregation was represented by two delegates. Present for the first time were the delegates from the newly-formed congregation of Byron Center. Rev. B. Woudenberg chaired this session of Classis.  Classis had a full day of activities—this is the meeting when synodical agenda items are handled. The usual routine business was also transacted.
