Rev. Arie den Hartog of our Covenant Protestant Reformed Church in Prospect Park, New Jersey has received a call from the Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Christchurch, New Zealand to come over and help them. Should Rev. den Hartog accept this call, he would remain a minister in the Protestant Reformed Churches, but be ‘on loan’ to the church in New Zealand. Decisions on these matters were made by the Synod of our churches in 1976.

It happens that, because of an unusual summer schedule, this column was written on June 12—which shouldn’t really make a particle of difference, since the Standard Bearer news is never current anyway. I just finished my copy for the July 1 issue, and I find that I still have some material left over. I figured that, if it would have been good enough for July news, it ought to be good enough for the August column too. (What we need is a new news writer.)

The following news about the organization of our newest congregation in Houston, Texas appeared in the February 20 Hope (Walker, Michigan) bulletin: “On Tuesday and Wednesday, our pastor (Rev. Ronald VanOverloop) and elders King and Engelsma assisted the group in Houston in their organization. Much of their time was spent with Rev. and Mrs. Harbach conducting family visitation and discussing future mission work. At the organizational meeting on Tuesday evening our pastor delivered the sermon and Rev. Harbach chaired the meeting. Those organized totaled four families and twenty souls.

Rev. Dale Kuiper and family, according to the decision of the Mission Committee ,and the Hudsonville consistory, returned from Maine the, week of March 28 and will live in Hudsonville for the time being. It was decided to close the field of labor there since there appeared to be no interest other than that of the original two families and two individuals. Rev. Kuiper will probably be investigating various other areas of labor in the next months. Faith Church’s bulletin reported that Rev. Kuiper would supply the pulpit of Edmonton until Rev. Moore is installed there.

Mr. Wigger is a member of the Protestant Reformed Church of Hudsonville, Michigan. Mission Activities For the past several months our denomination’s Domestic Mission Committee has been corresponding with a group of four families in Tucson, AZ who are interested in our churches’ starting a work in their city. These families, through personal study, have become very familiar with the PRC and are also giving a good witness in their community on a personal level and through the Internet (www.tucsonprotestantreformed.org).
