Congregational Activities The congregation at Byron Center, MI PRC held a sledding party on Saturday, February 6. Sledding began at 3 p.m. at Byron Christian School east campus with supper at Adams Christian School. In case of no snow, the gym at Adams was open. Families and friends of Southeast PRC in Grand Rapids, MI enjoyed an afternoon of sledding at the Mines Golf Course on Saturday, January 23. Brats and hot dogs were on the menu. Mission Activities On December 27, 2015 the calling church for the mission field to the Republic of the Philippines published their latest trio consisting of Rev. Cory Griess (Calvary PRC, Hull, IA), along with Rev. Brian Huizinga (Hope PRC, Redlands, CA), and Rev. Jonathan Mahtani, pastor in Cornerstone PRC, Dyer, IN. The congregation in the PRC of Doon, Iowa extended a call to Rev. Mahtani on January 3. We pray that God may clearly reveal His will to Rev. Minister News Rev. Rodney Kleyn, pastor in Covenant of Grace PRC, Spokane, WA, had the opportunity recently to visit his brother, Rev. Daniel Kleyn, missionary in the Philippines. Other family members made the trip there at the same time—a nice meeting for them. Rev. R. Kleyn preached one service in the PRC of Bulacan as well as in Maranatha PRC while he was in the metro Manila area. On December 13, Rev. Denominational Activities Pastor Carl and Mary Haak (Georgetown PRC, Hudsonville, MI) left on November 11 for a three-week stay (November 11-30) with the PRC of Vellore, India. Deane and Donna Wassink, also from Georgetown PRC, joined them on November 25, and then Rev. Cory Griess and Rev. Doug Kuiper from the Foreign Mission Committee (FMC) arrived on December 1. The Wassinks and the ministers from the FMC returned home on December 14. In all, a five-week stay was scheduled with the saints of God in the PRC of Vellore. Minister Activities Rev. Douglas Kuiper, pastor of the Edgerton, MN PRC, recently observed the occasion of his 20th year as minister of the Word and sacraments in the Protestant Reformed Churches. The congregation at Edgerton presented him with a commemorative plaque and together they shared a special cake. In addition to the church at Edgerton, Rev. Kuiper has served as pastor of Byron Center, MI PRC and Randolph, WI PRC and has also capably functioned as the Stated Clerk of Classis West for a number of years now. Missionary Activities The Classis of the Protestant Reformed Churches in the Philippines (which meets three times a year) met Saturday, October 31 in the Provident Christian Church of Marikina and was hosted by the Berean PRC. One of the main items on the agenda was the request of the Maranatha Protestant Reformed Church (MPRC) in Valenzuela City to join the Federation of Protestant Reformed Churches in the Philippines. There have been many meetings and months of preparation to determine if that congregation was one in doctrine and faith with the churches of the federation. Minister Activities The Council of the calling church for the Philippine mission field announced a new trio from which to call a second missionary. Included were Rev. Garry Eriks (Hudsonville, MI PRC), Rev. Cory Griess (Calvary PRC in Hull, IA), and Rev. Brian Huizinga (Hope PRC of Redlands, CA). At the congregational meeting in Doon, IA held October 5, the call was extended to Rev. G. Eriks, who declined that call on October 25. Mission Activities Monday, August 31 was a public holiday in the Philippines. Since many were not at work that day, the young adults of the area churches planned a “sports fest” for those in the Manila area. Under God’s blessing, the day was a great success! The weather, fellowship, and the turnout from the Berean PRC, Provident Christian Church of Marikina, and the Protestant Reformed Church in Bulacan were excellent. Rev. Denominational Activities Classis West was scheduled to meet Wednesday, September 30 in Edgerton, MN with the examination of Pastor-elect Ryan Barnhill taking place. An officebearers’ conference centering on “The Local Church and Missions” was planned there on September 29. Classis East convened Wednesday, September 9 at Byron Center, MI PRC. The meeting was brief, consisting mostly of routine items. School Activities Heritage Christian School provided a full-service restaurant at the Hudsonville, MI fairgrounds from August 24-29.
