Did you ever pray, “Thy Kingdom Come”? Of course you did, for it is the second petition of the prayer Christ taught us to pray. According to the new principle of life within us, we mean that prayer too. The new man in Christ longs eagerly for the perfection of that kingdom wherein he, by God’s grace, is a citizen and which is his inheritance. The prayer, “Thy kingdom come”, springs forth from that life which we receive out of heaven. Those living in His fear utter this prayer and mean every word of it. The time of the year...

In the last installment of this department we began to give our answer to an excuse that is generally given for not sending our children to schools where they may be trained as children of God’s kingdom. The excuse we began to answer is the one that many who never were sent to such schools turned out to be good Christians and even attained to high offices in the church. If the end of all things was at hand in the days of Peter, what must we who are living two centuries later say of the time in which we are living? And if Paul could say that the night is far spent, the day is at hand, then what part of the night still remains now that it is two thousand years after Paul spoke these words? And if the time was “short” when Paul wrote his first epistle to the Corinthians, how much should we expect that there is left today?

John and Mary are keeping company. The relation between these two young people is for no small part a sexual relationship. God has created us thus. This relationship must also come under the sphere of Covenant living and be conducted “in His fear”. Perhaps these are things which are less often discussed, but this does not remove the fact that they ought to be considered. Shall There be Sex-Information?

Praying For Them In Authority. “I never hear our dominee pray for our government^, some person is likely to say now and then. Or one might come directly to the minister and say to him, “Paul tells us to pray for them that are in authority, but I never hear you pray that”. The minister could perhaps retaliate and say: Do you ever do it?

Correction: In the next to the last paragraph of the last installment of this department a glaring error appeared. There you read, “And what is it but the worthy activity of our Protestant Reformed parents in this vicinity. . . . to protect our children from the dangerous world and life view of light and darkness, election and reprobation and of righteousness and unrighteousness.” It should have read thus, “And what is it but the worthy activity of our Protestant Reformed parents in this vicinity.

GROWTH IN PRAYER In a former article we attempted to describe the need for growth in prayer life. There is, we said, always the danger of falling into custom-praying and into formalism. Therefore we should ever be on our guard.
