Rev. G. Lanting, president of the July Classis, led in opening devotions, and declared the Classis properly constituted after the credentials of the various delegates had been accepted.
Rev. M. Schipper, following the order of rotation, presided over this meeting, while Rev. Lanting served as clerk.
All the churches were represented by two delegates each, and a very congenial and brotherly spirit prevailed throughout this brief session. Classis was finished with its work before the noon hour, when the diligent Martha’s of Hudsonville served us with their delicious dainties.
Most of the work of Classis was routine: the adoption of the transcribed minutes of the July Classis the acceptance of the reports of the Stated Clerk, the Classical Committee, and a report of a committee previously appointed to study an overture of Southwest Church. Classis continued the latter Committee which was not yet ready to give its advice. Classis West was granted its request to receive supply for some of its vacant pulpits, along with the request of Southwest Church. A committee, consisting of the Revs. H. Veldman, R. Harbach, and Elder B. Windemuller, was appointed to prepare a schedule which was later adopted as follows:
Southwest—Oct. 13—C. Hanko, Oct. 27—H. Veldman, Nov. 3—G. Lanting, Nov. 10—R. Harbach, Nov. 24—M. Schipper, Dec. 1—G: Vos, Dec. 8—R. Harbach, Dec. 15—G: Lanting; Dec. 22—M. Schipper, Dec. 29—H. Veldman, Jan. 5—G. Vos, Jan. 12—G. Lanting.
Redlands—Nov. 10, 17—C. Hanko.
Lynden—Nov. 24, Dec. 1—C. Hanko; Jan. 12, 19, 26—H. Veldman; March 8, 15, 22—R. Harbach.
Isabel-Forbes—March 8, 15, 22—M. Schipper.
Classis filled the expired terms of two members of the Classical Committee, and the unexpired term of Rev. H. Hanko who transferred to Classis West. Chosen were the Revs. G. Lanting and H. Veldman to serve for three years, and Rev. R. Harbach for two years. Rev. M. Schipper is the other member of this committee whose term expires in two years.
Classis authorized the Revs. G. Lanting and M. Schipper, president and clerk pf the July Classis respectively, to execute some legal documents relative to the transfer of certain church property in Grand Haven.
Elders F. Ondersma and M. Klop served on the finance committee for this session, while Elder R. Newhouse thanked the ladies of Hudsonville for their excellent Service.
Classis decided to meet next time on Jan. 8, 1964 in Southeast Church.
The questions of Art. 41 of the Church Order were asked and answered satisfactorily.
After the chairman made a few appropriate closing remarks, the Rev. G. Vos was asked to offer the prayer of Thanksgiving.
—M. Schipper, Stated Clerk.
