July 10, 1957 at Hope Protestant Reformed Church

Rev. G. Vos, chairman of the April Classis led in devotions. All the churches of Classis East were represented by two delegates. Rev. B. Woudenberg, following the order of rotation, presided over this session of Classis. This was the first time this youthful minister of Creston presided, and he acquitted himself well of his task. Rev. Vos transcribed the minutes.

Much of the work of Classis had to do with routine business, reading of minutes, hearing reports of various functionaries, appointment of committees, report of the Church visitors, etc.

The Classical Appointment committee prepared the following schedule and adopted by Classis for Kalamazoo: July 21—M. Schipper, July 28—G. Lanting, August 4—R. Veldman, August 11—C. Hanko, August 18—B. Woudenberg, September 1—J. McCollam, September 8—G. Vos, September 22—H. Hanko, August 25, September 15, 29 and October 6 were blank dates.

Classis treated a matter referred to it by the Synod of 1957 relative to the Holland case. A committee consisting of the brethren Revs. G. Lanting and H. Hanko and elders R. De Young and D. Engelsma was appointed to investigate this matter and report to the next Classis.

A letter from the Hull Protestant Reformed Church requesting the right to receive help from our churches in Classis East was received and Classis decided to grant this request. Also a matter was brought to the attention of Classis by the former treasurer of Classis. The Stated Clerk was instructed to inform the brother of our decision in this matter.

Hudsonville came to Classis with an instruction which it asked Classis to direct to the next Synod re the cost of publishing a complete index to theStandard Bearer. A committee consisting of the Rev. Vos and Schipper was appointed to obtain information re this matter and report to the next Classis.

Classis decided to meet next time on October 2, 1957, at Fourth Church.

Mr. J. King was appointed to thank the ladies of Hope for their excellent catering services.

After the questions of Article 41 of the Church Order were asked of and answered satisfactorily by each consistory, Classis adjourned, and elder John Hager of Fourth Church offered the closing prayer.
