NOT KEY 73 BUT THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM, by Rev. P. Kingma and Rev. M. Werkman. [Reviewed by Prof. H. Hanko]
This brief pamphlet contains two speeches which were delivered in 1973 in opposition to the Key 73 Movement. They were delivered by two ministers in the Canadian Reformed Church. The speeches stress particularly the false ecumenism of the Key 73 movement and, from a positive point of view, the nature of the church and preaching as taught in the creeds in relation to the gathering of the Church. While the Key 73 movement has dissipated, the pamphlet is still worthwhile reading. It can be obtained from the Lecture Committee of the American Reformed Church, 3167 – 68th St., Caledonia, Mich. The price is 65c a piece, postage paid; ten or more, 6Oc, 25 or more 50c.
ESSENCE OF CHRISTIANITY, Two Essays, Anders Nygren; Eerdmans Publishing Co., 1973; 128 pp., $1.95 (paper). [Reviewed by Prof. H. Hanko]
These two short essays are interesting and provocative. The first essay treats “The Permanent Element in Christianity” and has to do primarily with the Philosophy of Religion. The second essay, by far the best, is “The Atonement as a Work of God.” While the approach is somewhat rationalistic, there are some interesting insights into important questions which make the book worth reading.
