On the cover of The Reformed Journal (February, 1983) there appear in large letters the words, “A Respectable Blasphemy? PREDESTINATION.” The reference is to an article by Thomas Talbott entitled, “On predestination, reprobation, and the love of God” with the sub-title, “a polemic.” Mr. Talbott is a professor of philosophy at Willamette University, Salem, Oregon, and in his article identifies himself as a member of the Christian Reformed Church. To him it is not a question whether predestination is a respectable blasphemy, as is the query on the cover, but a fact.
