“. . . exhort . . . shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.” Titus 2:7, 8 Paul has noted frequently in his instructions to Titus that the acknowledging of the truth is to be accompanied with godliness. Faith and acknowledging of the truth “is after [accords with, is in harmony with] godliness” (Titus 1:1). He commands Titus to “speak thou the things which become sound doctrine” (Titus 2:1). “Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. In all things . . . .” Titus 2:6, 7a Titus was laboring among the new Christians on the island of Crete. Paul is giving instructions to young Titus concerning his work. He is to preach and teach that godliness of life is consistent with true faith. One’s acknowledgment of the truth should be accompanied by godliness (Titus 1:1), and Titus must keep on speaking and exhorting and rebuking with all authority the things that are consistent with sound doctrine (Titus 2:1, 15). This is always important, but it was especially so in...

“That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” Titus 2:4, 5 Titus was laboring among the new Christians on the island of Crete. He was to preach and teach God’s Word with a view to God’s elect acknowledging the truth and living in godliness (Titus 1:1). False doctrine and an ungodly lifestyle are to be condemned with words—spoken and printed. But they are also condemned by the godly life of...

The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, no false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things….” Titus 2:2, 3 Paul left Titus amongst the new Christians on the island of Crete with the responsibility to “set in order the things that are wanting” (Titus 1:5a). His primary duty was to organize churches by ordaining officebearers (Titus 1:5b), and to continue to preach and teach in the interest of the faith of God’s elect and their acknowledging of the...

As stated in an earlier editorial (March 1, 2009) we intend to use the Letters to the Editors column to bring to a conclusion our response to a respondent’s reaction to AIM’s recent video introducing the PRC to the viewing public. The respondent voiced problems with two matters highlighted by the video, the first having to do with the value and need for creeds and confessions in the church’s great battle to maintain the testimony of the Truth, the other having to do with the need and importance of membership in the church institute. In the February 15 issue of...

The Reformed Christian may not simply fall in with the thinking of the decent heathens or even of all other Christians on abortion. Abortion is murder, the killing of humans, who were originally created in the image of God, without divine warrant. The law of God forbids and condemns murder (Gen. 9:5, 6; Ex. 20:13). Humans begin to exist as persons at conception, as the Word of God teaches in Psalm 139:13-16: “… thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb…. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance...
