Not the hope of the saints. The hope of the saints is the resurrection of their body in the day of Christ. To this future good the Holy Scriptures insistently direct the expectation of believers: “for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible” (I Cor. 15:52). But a hope of the saints. It is, to be sure, a lesser good than the resurrection of the body, but it is a real good for all that. Rev. Hanko is a minister emeritus in the Protestant Reformed Churches. Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.  Malachi 3:16 Jehovah’s book of remembrance is the record of the lives of those who “fear the Lord,” since they are most precious in His sight. From His throne in heaven He listens to them when they are talking one with the other, pouring out their souls in times of...

From time to time it is necessary for pastors to remind their catechumens, both young and old, that they must memorize the prepositions in their answers carefully. These little words indicate the relationship that nouns, pronouns, and verbs have in regard to each other. It makes a world of difference whether something is for or against, under or on, before or after. Prepositions form a family of words which show these relationships very clearly. The study of prepositions is important in any language, but never more so...

Rev. Terpstra is pastor of the Protestant Reformed Church of South Holland, Illinios. But I ask, what is the heritage of the Protestant Reformed Churches? Is there any part of the truth which they have emphasized and further developed in distinction from other Reformed Churches? …If you ask me what is the most peculiar treasure of the Protestant Reformed Churches, I answer without any hesitation: their peculiar view of the covenant. And what is their peculiar conception? It stands closely connected with their denial of common grace, and with their emphasis on the doctrine of election and reprobation.  Moreover, it...

The old men and women in the churches may not retire from the work of these churches. The Lord Jesus Christ does not permit it. Whether and when a man retires from the work of his job are his business. There comes the time in the life of the wife and mother that the children are grown up, so that her work of guiding the house, if it has not ended is greatly lessened. The Lord does not begrudge them their relaxation from the toils of earthly life, their relative ease, their travels, their hobbies. But they may not retire...
