Woudenberg.  First Church of Grand Rapids, Synod-delegated Calling Church, has called Rev. R.C. Harbach of Kalamazoo to be Home Missionary for our churches, from a trio which included the Revs. J. Kortering and H. Veldman.

It was in January of 1963 that a bishop in the Anglican Church of England by the name of John A.T. Robinson published a book under the title “Honest to God,” It was a small book, and expectations were that it would receive but a small circulation, mostly among the clergy and serious students of theology. There was something about this book, however, which immediately struck the attention of the public, and its sales soon soared into the tens of thousands.

How he came upon the information we are not told, but of Esau we read that he saw that Isaac blessed Jacob and sent him away to get a wife from Rebekah’s family in Haran. It is quite plain from the silence that prevails upon the pages of Holy Writ that Rebekah did not reveal either to Isaac or to Esau her knowledge, that Esau intended to kill Jacob as soon as the days of mourning for Isaac’s death were past. And this is not right.

To my mind, the most interesting of the decisions made at the Vatican Council is this one. It treats precisely of that matter which is such great concern of other churches of our day. It sets forth, too, a change in attitude, though not in doctrine, in the Romish Church. There was a time, and not too long ago, when Romish leaders would not deign to meet with those outside their own church domain.
