The Rev. Malcolm R. Mackey, concerning whose writings in The Contender we have called attention before, in the November, 1956, issue of his paper continues his development of the above named subject. In the present issue he treats two aspects of the subject, calling attention first of all to: The Fact of Perseverance; and then in the second place to: What Perseverance Depends Upon.

My remarks under this caption are a continuation of what I wrote in the last issue of the Standard Bearerrelative to an editorial of the Rev. W. Hofman inConcordia of March 11th, and an article appearing in the same issue by a Mr. Byker of Hudsonville. These brethren consumed most of the space in that issue criticizing the undersigned for what he wrote in theStandard Bearer of February 15th concerning Dr.

“Would You Dare to Pray Thus?” We appreciate deeply the interest the readers of this department have and are showing respecting what we have to say in it. This interest is evidenced both in the letters we receive and in the clippings, etc., sent to us asking for our comment. That all the material does not find a place in our department is, of course, left to our judgment. I trust that my refusal to put everything I receive in this department will not discourage those who send it. 

Report of Classis East meeting held January 4 at Southeast Protestant Reformed Church:  Rev. A. Mulder led in opening devotions and declared Classis properly constituted when all the credentials of the various delegates were received and accepted. Each church was represented by two delegates.  Rev. M. Schipper then took the chair and Rev. Mulder transcribed the minutes. 

The South India Surrender

Love the Lord Thy God  A friend sent us the latest issue of the Missionary Monthly (November, 1955) in which she called my attention to an item of interest which we pass on to our readers.  On page 311 of this issue appears a brief review of one of Rev. H. Hoeksema’s books on the Heidelberg Catechism with the above title. The Rev. Gary De Witt writes concerning this volume as follows: 

In session July 6, 1955 in the Hudsonville Prot. Ref. Church Rev. R. Veldman, chairman of the April Classis, led in devotions. We sang Psalter No. 203. He read Psalm 121and offered prayer. All the churches were represented with proper credentials. However, two of the eleven churches had only one delegate.

Liberated Protestant Reformed Churches.  Two clippings from two issues of the Canadian Reformed Magazine (Liberated) were sent to me recently by a friend and brother who suggested that we might like to make a few comments in our department of the Standard Bearer. This we gladly do because both of the clippings will be of interest to our PR people since they not only reflect on our churches, but also on the schismatic group that recently left us.
