I am writing concerning your Editorial in the March 1, 2009 Standard Bearer. Please understand I greatly respect you, the SB, and the PRC. I have been a reader and subscriber for over thirty years. So in that frame of reference I am criticizing what I see as several errors in your March 1st Editorial. 1. The creeds are not the work of the Holy Spirit. They are man’s words summarizing particular biblical doctrines. 2. Some (like me) can “honestly dispute” that the same charge holds true for present day officers of churches as it did for the apostles. 3. We are dealing with...

Praise God for the excellent article in “All Around Us” (Rev. M. DeVries) of the July 2008 issue of the SB. Rev. DeVries makes a perfect statement of truth when he says, “make no mistake, the doctrine of Scripture lies at the very heart of the faith of the church of Jesus Christ…. All our faith stands or falls with the answer to the question: Is Scripture the infallibly inspired and therefore authoritive Word of God?” Ever since the Reformation, and again in the 1880s and today, this has been exactly what has turned the church to Satan’s “Yea, hath God...

My thanks to Mr. Cal Kalsbeek for his comments [cf. September 1, 2007 Standard Bearer, p. 474] on Joel Belz’s World magazine article entitled “Seven big lies.” Mr. Belz should have listed eight Big Lies! The first being the lie about Scripture itself. The lie that the best manuscripts were found in a jar in Egypt, and in a trash can in the Vatican—as put forth by the liars Wescott and Hort in the 1880s and accepted wholesale by “Reformed Christians” such as B.B. Warfield, et. al. This is why all the other lies have been so readily accepted by our modern age. Once the Scriptures were...

I am writing concerning the article “Just Words?” in the March 15th Standard Bearer. Thank you so much for a perfect sermon about cursing and profanity. It is very moving and convicting. It is a sin of which I have been guilty many times. I have now, after reading this, made a new commitment to conquer this misuse of my own lips. God bless you for the effort you put into it, and for the reminder at the end that only Christ Himself has the power to conquer this sin and that He is the only hope of our forgiveness. Pray...

Rome and “Authority” Rev. Richard Smit’s article (“The Supreme Authority of the Holy Scriptures”) in the October 15th issue is another of so many truth-filled articles in the Standard Bearer. The whole issue on Roman Catholicism is outstanding. Thank you for it. I appreciated Rev. Smit’s drawing our attention to Rome’s claim that, because the church approved the books of the Bible, “therefore the authority of Scripture rests upon the witness of the church.” This is an argument I have heard many times from Roman Catholics. What they never consider is the fact that much of the New Testament epistles...
