We have repeatedly taken notice of the beautifulpedagogical approach of Paul in this letter to a church, full of sin and imperfections of the flesh!

Timothy must teach certain men in Ephesus not to teach a “different” doctrine. Other foundation can no man lay than that which was put down by Paul in the Church. It is the foundation of the apostles and prophets of which Jesus Christ is the chief corner-stone. Eph. 2:20. That is the position of all Paul’s apology for the faith once delivered to the saints.
Twice we have now called attention to this section of the words of Jesus as they are recorded here by Matthew. It can do no harm to briefly recapitulate what we have thus far noticed in our consideration of the former verses, the verses 25-27.
An observation by the Rev. M. Schipper in the December issue of the Standard Bearer causes me to take the pen and write of his conclusions: Non sequitur! (It does not follow).
Today, February 27, the undersigned received a letter from Rev. J. Howerzyl, pastor of the Protestant Reformed Church at Oskaloosa, Iowa, that became schismatic by recognizing the Rev. De Wolf and other schismatics, in which he states that he believes that I do not present the matter of our telephone conversation entirely correctly in my “editorial”, captioned “What Rev. Hofman Did Not Write.” Said article appears in the February 15 issue of theStandard Bearer. The paragraphs to which Rev. Howerzyl has reference read in full as follows:
We are still studying Paul’s superb and masterful refutation of the party-strife and schism in the congregation of Corinth; the heinous sin of making a rend in the church of the living God!
It is the purpose of the undersigned to write a few articles of an exegetical nature on some passages quoted by “Classis West” in their missive to Classis East, which must serve as a basis and proof of their “testimony” that the Statements condemned by Classis East are not per se heretical. These passages are “like statements in Scripture” which prove that, although these “statements” are not a concise statement of doctrine, they are not what Classis East said they were, to wit; per se heretical! There is a challenge in this enunciation of “Classis West.”
The church of God in the world, the pillar and ground of the truth, is ever plagued by ignorant jugglers, who, although they know really nothing concerning the things they speak of, nevertheless confidently affirm what they say.
For the sake of clarity we once more call attention to the trend of thought we have thus far noticed in the verses 25 through 28. This trend of thought is as follows: 1. That Jesus thanks and exalts the Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that He has hid the Mysteries of the Kingdom from the wise and prudent and revealed them unto the babes. We noticed that Jesus emphatically thanks the Father not only that He has “revealed” these things to the “babes,” but that, he has also “hid” these things from the wise and the prudent.
There was one lecture which the undersigned gave in 1960 which was not mentioned in the former issue ofThe Standard Bearer under “Missionary Notes.” I refer to the lecture which was held by the undersigned in the American Legion Hall at Tripp, S.D. This lecture was held December 14, 1960. Permit me to tell you something about this lecture and the experience we had at this city of South Dakota.
