January 8, 2014 Southeast Protestant Reformed Church Classis East met in regular session on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Southeast PRC. The churches, with the exception of Wingham, were repre­sented by two delegates. The Wingham delegation was unable to attend because of the weather. Classis did the usual January duty of elections. Report of Classis East September 11, 2013 Byron Center PRC Classis East met in regular session on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Byron Center PRC. Each church was represented by two delegates. Rev. J. Slopsema was the chairman for this session. The business was routine and classis was finished early. As the chairman noted, this is a sign that the churches have peace and unity in their midst. Classical appointments were given to Faith PRC. There were no expenses for this session. January 9, 2013 First Protestant Reformed Church, Grand Rapids Classis East met in regular session on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the First PRC, Grand Rapids. Each church was represented by two delegates. The session was chaired by Rev. Jonathan Mahtani, a first for him. Classis dealt with two discipline cases. May 9, 2012, Georgetown PRC Classis East met in regular session on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Georgetown PRC. All the churches were represented by two delegates. Rev. W. Langerak, in the absence of Rev. K. Koole, chaired this session. The business of classis was routine with the exception of two discipline cases presented by two consistories. Classis East met in regular session on May 8, 1985 at the Kalamazoo Protestant Reformed Church. Each church was represented by two delegates. Rev. B. Gritters chaired this meeting of classis. The main item of business was the treatment of an appeal of a brother who maintained that his consistory did not thoroughly treat his protest. Classis decided that the consistory did in fact thoroughly treat the protest and thus the appeal was not sustained. In other action, classis approved the ministerial credentials of Rev. M. When I was appointed to the Theological School Committee seven years ago, I was assured by the “old guard” members that the committee met just four or five times a year, that its meetings were short, that the work and time required would be minimal. What a surprise that turned out to be! The Theological School Committee now meets on a very regular monthly basis, with an agenda that is usually full, with meetings that have, on occasion, lasted beyond reasonable expectations.
