Classis East met in regular session on January 8, 1975 at the First Prot. Ref. Church in Grand Rapids. Each church was represented by two delegates. Rev. M. Joostens led the classis in opening devotions and Rev. Schipper, by rotation, was the chairman of this session of Classis.
REPORT OF CLASSIS EAST July 7, 1971 At First Prot. Ref. Church Rev. H. Veldman, chairman of the April session, led the Classis in opening devotions; and after the credentials were received, declared Classis to be properly constituted. All the churches were represented by two delegates. Rev. J. Heys then presided and Rev. R. Harbach recorded the minutes.
Classis East met in regular session on July 5, 1972 and, as has been characteristic of the last few sessions, accomplished its business in short order. The only business other than the routine business before Classis was a request from a consistory to have Classis approve an increase of censure from the first to the second step. This request was approved by Classis.
Classis East met in regular session on October 5th at the Faith Prot. Ref. Church in Jenison, Michigan. All the churches were represented by two delegates. Rev. Van Overloop led in opening devotions and Rev. Woudenberg, in the absence of Rev. Veldman, presided.
Classis East met in regular session on October 6, 1976 at the First Prot. Ref. Church. The business before the session was routine. The chairman of the session, Rev. M. Joostens, in commenting upon the routine nature of the business before classis, expressed gratitude to God that the churches were at peace and that, routine as the business, the classis must keep in mind the seriousness of doing the business of the Kingdom of God. The Finance Committee for this session was Rev. Van Overloop and Elder H. VanderKolk. Expenses authorized amounted to $378.65.
Classis East met in regular session on April 2, 1975 at the Southeast Prot. Ref. Church. Each church was represented by two delegates. Rev. G. Van Baren served as chairman for this session. The majority of Classis’s time was spent in discussing the majority, and minority reports of its committee to study and make recommendations on the Hope overture to discharge the Student Aid Committee. Classis decided to send the overture to Synod with both majority and minority reports attached for information.
REPORT OF CLASSIS EAST October 3, 1973 Hudsonville Prot. Ref Church Classis East met in regular session on October 3, 1973 in Hudsonville. The churches were each represented by two delegates. Rev. R. Van Overloop led the classis in opening devotions; Rev. H. Veldman presided over this session.
The assignment given me at a recent Theological School Committee meeting was to write for publication in The Standard Bearer a brief summary of the activities of the committee and the seminary. In trying to fulfill this mandate I found that it is not easy for a neophyte member of this committee to write such a summary. There is so much history and therefore so much learning and adjusting to do that one scarcely has the time to reflect long enough to report in any detail what has happened.
Classis East met in regular session on January 5, 1977 at our new Hudsonville church. A guided tour of the edifice preceded the meeting. Each congregation was represented by two delegates and, for the first time in many years, each congregation has an under shepherd of her own. Rev. B. Woudenberg, having returned to serve a congregation in Classis East after a long stay in Classis West, was duly welcomed to the Classis. Rev. M. Schipper served as chairman of this session.
January 3,1974 Southeast Prot. Ref. Church Classis East met in regular session on January 3, 1974 in Southeast Church. Each church was represented by two delegates. Rev. H. Veldman, whose turn it was to lead the classis in opening devotions, was absent due to mission work in Houston, Texas. Present at this classis and given advisory vote were Rev. G. Lubbers, Prof. R. Decker and Rev. D. Kuiper.
