Mr. Shackford has just returned from covering the Big Four foreign ministers conference at Moscow and is writing a series of articles portraying background glimpses of Soviet Russia. From the following it becomes apparent that even Russia is discovering it cannot disregard God’s laws with impunity. “Religion. . . .is the opium of the people.’’ Those words of Karl Marx are chiseled in red sandstone on the wall of...

Mennonite Migrations. . . . Great lovers of rural life with its comparative simplicity are the various branches of Mennonites. The stricter groups, as for example the Amish, are particularly careful about keeping themselves free from all entanglements with the world as much as possible. Just recently a group of Amish Reformed folk in Indiana decided to move to Tennessee to escape worldly influences. Unable to maintain their own high schools, and compelled by Indiana law to keep their children in school until they are sixteen years of age, this Amish group is migrating to Tennessee to keep their children...

This is also true of the Church society life; the organizations for young people, men and women. It is not customary, for example, that a member give an introduction to the material to be discussed but the group simply comes together, usually under the leadership of the local minister, and after reading the Scripture portion to be handled simply begins discussing without preparation or introduction. “There is...

Christian School. . . . We came across a Christian School news-sheet recently which attracted our attention. Since the time is at hand that children will return to school, its purpose was to make propaganda for the particular school which issued it and also to attempt to influence parents to send their children here. While reading this little pamphlet, two things drew our attention, in the first place, we were struck by the great and overwhelming emphasis that was put upon the physical and formal advantages and aspects of the school. From the sheet, these appeared to be, by far,...

The concept “Day of the Lord” or the idea contained in that term is expressed by the writers of Holy Writ throughout. Besides the literal reference it is designated by such expressions as: “day of visitation”, “day of vengeance”, “day of battle”, “day of evil”, “day of wrath”, “day of destruction”, “day the Lord made”, and “especially in the Old Testament, simply as “the day”, and even more frequently as “that day”.

It is doubtful whether Haggai makes specific reference to the day although he does refer to it generally. On the other hand both Zechariah and Malachi are profuse in their discourses concerning the concept. Thru the means of several visions in the early portions of Zechariah the Lord reveals through him the salvation that will come in that day. These are developed through the book to the closing chapters.
