Reformation Day Lectures were in abundance in our churches at the end of October. Rev. R. Van Overloop spoke on the “Reformation and the Preached Word,” in the; Grand Rapids area. Prof. Decker spoke in two places: Kalamazoo and Houston, Texas. In Kalamazoo his topic was “The Reformation and the Offices of the Church.” The Texas audience heard him speak on “The Foolishness of Preaching.” Rev. K. Hanko spoke on “The Church and the Word,”) and Rev. R. Hanko spoke on “The Priesthood of Believers.”

We have another new sister congregation. This time in the Grandville, Michigan area. On February 9th, at Hope Protestant Reformed Church in Walker, the Grandville Protestant Reformed Church was formed. That, by the way, is not their official name. Prof. H. Hanko gave the sermon based on I Timothy 3:15b; “The Church, The Pillar of the Truth'” The charter members consisted of 25 families and 5 individuals.

Rev. George G. Hutton, the minister of The Bible Presbyterian Church, Larne, visited the South Holland, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids areas in the middle part of February. He spoke to numerous groups of people, including some of our school children, about his being led by God through some of our Protestant Reformed literature. The struggles that he faces in Ireland as a believer in the Reformed truth can be appreciated by those of us who have lived through similar circumstances in the early history of our churches. There was an international meeting of sorts too when Rev. Hutton, Mr. and Mrs.

The committee planning the officebearers conferences has asked me to provide you the following report on the last conference. On March 3 & 4 a conference on “Historic Presbyterianism” was held in South Holland Church, Illinois, in conjunction with the meeting of Classis West. The purpose of the conference was to learn more of the Bible Presbyterian Church (BPC) of Larne, Northern Ireland, with whom our churches have established sister church relations. Three of our churches have recently extended calls. From a trio consisting of the Reverends R. Hanko, Kamps, and Moore, Hull Protestant Reformed Church has called Rev. Kamps. Our church in Houston, Texas has called Prof. Decker, from a trio which included also Rev. Slopsema and Rev. Woudenberg. Lynden’s trio was Rev. Haak, Rev. Slopsema, and Rev. VanBaren. Rev. Haak received the call. Prof. Hoeksema planned to leave for Lynden on the 21st of December, in order to preach in our church there on the 23rd, and take the rest of the services through those of Sunday, January 6.

The spring lecture held in Loveland, Colorado, was well attended and also included many visitors, which was encouraged our church there. The reason for the interest is due in part to the topic that Rev. Rev. Bekkering preached his farewell sermon at Trinity Protestant Reformed Church in the evening on December 9. The Bekkerings moved on December 11. Rev. VanBaren preached the sermon at Rev. Bekkering’s installation as pastor in Faith Church, December 16. Rev. Dale Kuiper consented to go to Trinity Church in Texas with his family for December 23 and 30. Rev. Kuiper also preached the Christmas and New Year sermons in Texas.
