GROWTH IN PRAYER In a former article we attempted to describe the need for growth in prayer life. There is, we said, always the danger of falling into custom-praying and into formalism. Therefore we should ever be on our guard.

Gaining Others To Christ. We all subscribe to this statement. It is another question whether we are very conscious of this doctrine and whether we diligently practice it. In our Catechism the question is asked why we must still do good works, since we are delivered by grace. The Catechism cites three reasons. One of these reasons or purposes is expressed in the title given above.
How Do You Quote Scripture? No wonder, said one man discussing Scripture with another, no wonder the people turn away from the truth. The leaders turn away from the truth, and Scripture says: as priest so the people. But, does Scripture really say that? The question is not whether there is truth in this statement, the question is whether this quotation is correct.
I’ll never forget the man who thought that the Canons of Dordt were implements of war, manufactured in Dordt. Evidently mistaking Canons for cannons, and thereby revealing how totally ignorant he was of the Canons. Our people by and large are not that ignorant.
It’s happened to most of us, I suppose, who write now and then, that you talk with somebody, and say, “Yes, I wrote about that lately, remember?” And you discover to your dismay and his chagrin, that he doesn’t remember. He simply had not read your last article. Now it is possible that you did not read what we were trying to express in our former issue.
As children of God we are not OF the world, but we are certainly very much IN the world, and the trends and events of this world have effect upon us. We are confronted with the situations of this present world. This is especially true in respect to our to-be-married or our just-married young people. The housing shortage effects every one of us, but especially our young people who are planning to enter or have recently entered upon married life.
Dear Editor: After reading the articles of Rev. Gritters, “About Catechism, Etc.”, and “Catechism Around the Confessions”, I was prompted to write a word in appreciation but also in criticism. The emphasis Rev. Gritters placed upon the need to have instruction in our creeds is worthy of all of our support. I believe we should so instruct in the creeds of our fathers that they are again appreciated as statements and standards to be used in our fight against falsehood.
I hope you have read what brother Rev. Doezema wrote in our column last time. Better re-read it or re-call it otherwise you won’t know what I am going to try to write about now.
“This one thing (I do)” says Paul in Phil. 8:13, “towards the goal, I pursue for the prize”. “One thing I know” says the man born blind,” that whereas I was blind, now I see.” “One thing have I desired of the Lord” says the psalmist in Ps. 27:4, “that will I seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life”.
Convened, Mar. 2, at Edgerton, Minn. Rev. A. Cammenga calls the meeting to order. After the usual preliminaries the credentials’ are forwarded and approved and the meeting is declared constituted. Rev. L. Doezema now functions as chairman and Rev. A. Cammenga as secretary.
