The pre-convention Hymn-Sing was held in Hudsonville Church, Sunday evening, August 13. Chas. Westra, of Southeast church conducted the “sing,” with Jim Jonker, of First church, at the organ and Mrs. B. Lubbers, of Hudsonville, at the piano. Special numbers were: a medley of hymns arranged for the piano, by Mrs. B. Lubbers, and a tenor solo, by Gerald Kuiper, of Hope church, accompanied by Miss Bonnie Bylsma, of First church. Lammert Lubbers, of the Beacons Lightsstaff, gave a good description of the plans for traveling to and from Loveland so the delegates and the parents might learn those plans first...
Rev. R.C. Harbach, of Lynden, has received a call from our Kalamazoo congregation. Rev. G. Vanden Berg declined the call which came to him from Southwest Church. Their new trio consists of the Revs. H. Hanko, R.C. Harbach and. H. Veldman. Rev. H. Hanko accepted the call to Doon, Iowa. April 5, 1960 Randolph has extended a call to Rev. G. Vanden Berg of Oak Lawn, from a trio which included the Revs. G. Lubbers and G. Vos. Rev. R. Veldman, of Southeast Church, declined the call from Hull. Hull now has made a new trio which consists of Revs. G. Lubbers, M. Schipper and G. Vos. Rev. Lanting, Holland’s pastor, will give a public lecture Thursday, April 28, at 8 P. M. The lecture, entitled, “The Eternal Rewards,” will be held at W. 12th St., corner of Washington Ave. Everyone is cordially invited.
The annual Family Visitation has begun in many of our churches. May we ail experience the answer to our prayer as expressed in Hope’s bulletin, “May God grant his blessing upon this work this year that our congregation may be strengthened.” Hope, Adams St., and Edgerton schools re-opened their doors, and Oak Lawn-South Holland opened its doors for the first time Sept. 5. What a privilege we have that we may instruct our children in harmony with that which they receive in our homes and churches! May 5, 1960 Rev. H. H. Kuiper, of Loveland, suffered a recurrence of a stomach ailment and its attendant loss of blood due to hemorrhage. The attack occurred in the church parlors during a social gathering following a lecture by Rev. Heys of South Holland. Another attack, two days later in the hospital, left Rev. Kuiper in a critical condition, but ten days and five transfusions later found him in a much improved condition. At this writing he is reported to be still in the hospital in Loveland.
Rev. B. Woudenberg has received the call from our congregation in Lynden, Wash. Rev. J. Kortering, of Hull, Iowa, has received the call from Redlands, Calif.
