Rev. M. Schipper, pastor of Southwest’s Church since 1954, has accepted a call to the Southeast Church in Grand Rapids. Southwest’s consistory has named a trio which includes the Revs. C. Hanko, J.A. Heys and G. Vanden Berg. The Senior Young People’s Society of First Church has changed the time of their meetings from Tuesday evening to Sunday afternoon. This change has resulted in an increase of membership and a better attendance record. The Protestant Reformed Seminar held its third session this season, Nov. 24. The subject for discussion was introduced by Mr. L. Lubbers with a paper which dealt with correct methods of instruction. Rev. H. Veldman, of Redlands, conducted the funeral service for Rev. H.H. Kuiper in Loveland. Because his own congregation could not attend this service Rev. Veldman repeated his sermon in his church the following Sunday evening. This kindness of Redland’s pastor reflects in no little measure the close bond of unity existing between our churches. News from the Mission Field indicates that after some pro and con considerations it has finally been decided to render a Christmas program immediately after the Christmas Day service. The program’s theme will be, “The promise fulfilled by God.” Rev. and Mrs. Lubbers went to Houston, Texas, to interview people who are interested in our churches. Rev. H. Veldman, of Redlands, declined the call which came to him from the church at Doon, Iowa. Loveland’s new trio includes the Revs. H. Hanko, J.A. Heys and B. Woudenberg. Rev. M. Schipper preached his farewell sermon in Southwest Church, Oct. 28; the theme of which was the Word of God recorded in Acts 20:32. The previous Thursday evening the entire congregation came together for a farewell program arranged to bid Rev. Schipper God-speed in his new pastorate. January 5, 1960  Rev. G. Vanden Berg declined the call from Hull; Rev. R. Veldman declined the calls from Randolph and Grand Haven. Edgerton’s trio consists of the Revs. R. Harbach, R. Veldman and B. Woudenberg; Randolph’s trio includes the Revs. H. Hanko, M. Schipper and G. Vanden Berg.  Seminarian J. Kortering, temporarily stationed in Hull, exchanged pulpits with Rev. G. Van Baren, of Doon, the afternoon of Jan. 3. Rev. Van Baren thereby was privileged to install the office bearers chosen to serve the congregation of Hull.

Report of Classis East held April 5, 1961, at Hope Church: Rev. M. Schipper, chairman of the January Classis, led in opening devotions, and declared the Classis properly constituted after all the Credentials were received. All the Churches were represented by two delegates, except Grand Haven. Rev. R. Veldman served as chairman for this session. Most of the work of Classis was routine, and handled with dispatch. Classis adopted the following schedule for Classical appointments: Creston, April 23—G. Vos, April 30—H. Hanko, May 14— C. Hanko, May 28—G. Lanting, June 11—M.

All of the Grand Rapids area bulletins have been carrying notices of the coming Men’s Chorus New Year’s Eve program. Many of them include the proviso, “D.V.”—Deo Volento, or, God willing. The- Congregation of Edgerton extended a call to Rev. B. Woudenberg; Rev. C. Hanko received the call from Hull: Randolph, chose Rev. H. Hanko from a trio which also included the Revs. G. Vanden Berg and M. Schipper.  REPORT OF CLASSIS EAST held January 6, 1960 at First Church, Grand Rapids, Mich. Rev. B. Woudenberg, chairman of the October Classis, led in devotions. All the churches were represented by two delegates except Grand Haven which had only one delegate present.  Rev. C. Hanko, following order of rotation, led this session of Classis.
