The New Bible Dictionary. Edited by J. D. Douglas. Published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company. Price $12.95.

On the flap we may read: “Here at last is an entirely new and up-to-date one-volume Bible dictionary, produced in a spirit of loyalty to Holy Scripture and in accordance with the highest standards of Biblical scholarship, and designed to contribute to a better understanding of God’s Word.”

With this I whole heartedly agree.

Of course, in a review of this nature one cannot be expected to read every single article in the book. This I, at least, did not do. But I selected certain main and representative articles, sufficient to obtain an idea of the contents of the book. And my impression is that this is a very good book, scholarly and orthodox, and quite faithfully representing the thought and text of Holy Writ.

As such I recommend the book, not only to those of our readers that may be considered biblical scholars, but also to those that are students of Scripture in a more general sense of the word.
